Crescent Park is one of the largest solar-powered affordable housing communities in the country, set across 25 acres in Richmond. Built in 1968 and acquired by EAH Housing in 1994 to prevent its loss to market-rate conversion, the 378-apartment property underwent a $70 million renovation completed in 2009 that modernized all 24 residential buildings without raising rents. A 908-kilowatt rooftop solar system now provides most of the electricity on site, alongside an award-winning Multicultural Family Resource Center offering computer learning, job preparation, and after-school tutoring for roughly 1,800 residents.
