Resident Spotlight: Eva Brown Finds Home and Purpose at Mission Paradise

When Eva Brown spoke at the Mission Paradise grand opening on December 10, 2025, she was more than just a resident. She showed everyone what affordable senior housing can make possible.

Eva is a retired Alameda County social worker who spent her career helping others find housing and access social services. She never thought she would need that same support herself. After her marriage ended and years spent caring for her brothers, most of Eva's savings went toward her family. In her mid-70s, she lost her housing and no longer had a safe, permanent place to live. This was a scary situation for someone who had spent her life helping others find homes.

When Eva moved into Mission Paradise in 2025, it was the first time in years she had a stable, affordable home where she felt safe and respected. Mission Paradise is a 76-unit affordable housing community for adults 62 and older in Hayward. It offers senior-friendly amenities such as a community room, rooftop deck, fitness center, computer lab, and community garden.

Today, Eva is very involved in her community. She volunteers to organize events for other seniors and decorates the hallways for holidays. Her efforts bring joy and help neighbors connect, turning shared spaces into welcoming places that feel like home.

Eva's story shows that housing insecurity can affect anyone, even people who have spent their lives helping others. It also proves what can happen when people have stability and dignity. At Mission Paradise, Eva is once again helping others, now from a place of stability and hope.
